Overview
The University of Warwick received its royal charter in 1965 and took its first undergraduates that October, which makes it young by English standards. Despite the name, the campus is not in the town of Warwick: it straddles the boundary between the City of Coventry and the county of Warwickshire, in the West Midlands. Teaching buildings, the library, student housing, the arts centre and sports facilities share the main campus, a layout that can feel more familiar to North American students than a city-centre university or the collegiate model at Oxford and Cambridge.
Warwick teaches across arts, social sciences, science, engineering and medicine. The admissions test rules below matter most for economics, mathematics, statistics and computer science.
How to apply for 2027
Undergraduate applications go through UCAS. The equal consideration deadline for 2027 entry is 13 January 2027 at 18:00 UK time. Warwick does not use the 15 October deadline for its standard undergraduate courses, though its graduate entry Medicine programme has its own rules on the course page.
Warwick reads the personal statement and school reference alongside grades. If you are unsure whether your qualifications fit, its North America team can be contacted through the country pages linked below.
TMUA and STEP for 2027 entry
| Course | Test requirement for 2027 entry |
|---|---|
| Computer Science (and related degrees) | TMUA required, unless eligible for a contextual offer |
| Mathematics | TMUA or STEP typically required; offers without a TMUA score are conditional on grade 2 in any STEP paper |
| Statistics degrees | Optional; no disadvantage if you do not sit it, and most offers include a TMUA or STEP option |
| Economics | Optional, and may be a factor for L100 Economics; requirements under review for 2027 |
| Computer Systems Engineering | Not required |
The TMUA has two sittings in this cycle: 12 to 16 October 2026 and 4 to 8 January 2027, with registration for the January sitting closing on 21 December 2026. Results arrive about four weeks after the test. Mathematics applicants who plan to sit STEP instead should say so on their UCAS application. Our quantitative reasoning deck and calculus derivatives deck are good daily practice for the TMUA.
Canadian and US applicants
Warwick accepts a wide range of overseas qualifications and publishes country information pages for the USA and Canada, with detailed entry requirements linked from each. Warwick says its US requirements are under review for the 2027 to 2028 cycle and should be used as a guide only. As a guide, it usually looks for four or five AP tests in separate subjects taken within three years (AAA corresponds to three APs at 5 and one at 4), and many maths-related courses need AP Calculus BC at 5. For Canada it averages five Grade 12 academic or AP courses (six for Ontario), with AAA corresponding to an 85 per cent average; some departments, including Mathematics and Economics, do not typically accept the OSSD. Confirm with the North America team before you apply. Warwick states that US applicants, or those who completed at least a year of education in the US in the past two years, may be accepted without a separate English language qualification.
Fees, visas and preparation
Tuition and course costs are listed on Warwick's fees and funding pages, along with living costs and scholarships for international students. Students who need a visa apply for the UK Student visa. Our United Kingdom guide explains UCAS choices and offers, and if you are heading for economics, the microeconomics deck gives a head start on first-year vocabulary.
