In short

  • A large multi-faculty university in Bloomsbury, central London, founded in 1826.
  • Most programmes close on 13 January 2027 through UCAS; Medicine closes on 15 October 2026.
  • For 2027, several programmes need a test: LNAT, UCAT, TMUA, ESAT or TARA.
  • UCL publishes a clear table of AP, SAT and ACT combinations for US applicants.

Overview

University College London (UCL) was founded in 1826 and sits mainly in Bloomsbury in central London, with a newer campus at UCL East in Stratford. It covers almost every field, from architecture at the Bartlett to fine art at the Slade, medicine, laws and engineering. With so many programmes, the admissions rules vary a lot by department, which is why the course page is the document that matters most.

Applying through UCAS

All undergraduate applications go through UCAS. For 2027 entry, the general equal consideration deadline is 13 January 2027 at 18:00 UK time, and MBBS Medicine follows the earlier 15 October 2026 deadline. UCL asks you to list every AP and SAT you have taken or will complete by August of the application year, because it does not consider updated results after you submit.

Tests, tasks and interviews for 2027

UCL lists these requirements for 2027 entry and notes that they can change in later cycles:

  • LNAT for all UCL Laws undergraduate programmes.
  • UCAT for MBBS Medicine, followed by multiple mini interviews for candidates ranked highly.
  • TMUA for Economics BSc.
  • ESAT for Electronic and Electrical Engineering.
  • TARA for Computer Science, Computer Science and Mathematics, and, new for 2027, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence and Mechanical Engineering.
  • An internal thinking skills test for European and International Social and Political Studies.
  • Portfolios and interviews for Architecture and Fine Art, and a test plus interview for Pharmacy.

If you are aiming at Medicine, our MMI preparation article and situational judgement deck line up with the UCAT and interview stages.

What US and Canadian applicants need

UCL converts each programme's A level offer into US terms. Some examples from UCL's published table:

A level offerAP onlyAP plus SAT or ACT
AAAFive APs at 5Four APs at 5 plus SAT 1440 or ACT 32
AAAFour APs at 5Three APs at 5 plus SAT 1440 or ACT 32
ABBTwo APs at 5 and one at 4Two APs at 5 plus SAT 1280 or ACT 27

Calculus BC is required where a programme asks for A level Mathematics, and AP Seminar and AP Research do not count. A completed year at a recognized US university or college with an overall GPA of 3.3 may also be considered. Canadian students should check the international applications tab on their programme page for provincial diploma requirements.

Fees, aid and visas

UCL lists current international fees on each programme page and on its fees and funding pages. It participates in the US William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program, so eligible US citizens can use federal loans there. Visa holders apply for the UK Student visa. Our United Kingdom guide walks through UCAS offers and replies.
