In short
You can use StudyBrix without an account and without giving any personal information. Worksheets, settings and course progress are stored in your own browser. If you create an account we store your email address and the worksheets you save. Ads are provided by Google AdSense and are requested as non-personalised ads; pages for young children and private student pages have no ads.
Stored in your browser
Without an account, your worksheets, settings, course progress and diagnostic results are saved only in this browser (local storage). Nothing is synced between devices, and clearing your browser data removes it. A name typed into a tracing sheet is used only to draw the sheet: it is sent once to make the PDF and is not stored or logged.
Optional accounts
If you create a free account we store your email address, a one-way scrypt hash of your password (never the password itself), the worksheets you save to the account, and a sign-in cookie named sb_session. That cookie is strictly necessary to keep you signed in, lasts up to 30 days, and is never used for advertising or tracking. We send email only about your account (confirming your address, password resets and a notice when your password changes). Links in these emails work once and expire (48 hours to confirm, 1 hour to reset). Emails are sent by RSDware’s license server (licenses.rsdware.com) through our email provider, ZeptoMail by Zoho, or through our own Zoho mailbox when one is configured. We do not send newsletters or share your email address.
StudyBrix Plus (optional, paid)
StudyBrix Plus is an optional membership that removes ads while you are signed in and raises account limits. Payments, membership keys and renewals are handled by RSDware’s license server (licenses.rsdware.com) with Square; we never see or store card details. For a Plus account we also store the membership key, its plan, end date and renewal status, and the time it was last checked. When you buy, your email address goes to the license server and Square to send your receipt and key. If you delete your account, auto-renewal is cancelled first and the key is released.
Deleting your account
Sign in, open your account (the button with your initial in the worksheet builder) and choose Delete account. After you confirm with your password, your email address, password hash, sessions, email links, saved worksheets, any classes, assignments, student answers and collections, and any Plus membership record are deleted from our database straight away (a Plus subscription's auto-renewal is cancelled first).
Teachers and students
Students never create an account or give an email address. A teacher enters a first name or nickname (we refuse email addresses, phone numbers and web addresses in class lists), and the student answers through a private link. Student pages load no advertising or tracking, send no referrer and are not indexed. We do not store IP addresses or device details with answers. Answers and scores are deleted automatically 400 days after the assignment was created, or at once when the teacher deletes them. Details: student data notice.
Children
Pages made for young children (early learning, Kindergarten to Grade 2 and tracing) show no ads. On other pages ads are requested as non-personalised, so they are not based on a visitor's interests or browsing history. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children: accounts are meant for teachers, parents and older learners.
Advertising and cookies
This site is free because it shows ads from Google AdSense on some pages. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies (and similar technologies such as web beacons and IP addresses) to serve ads, to limit how often an ad is shown, to measure ads and to prevent fraud. We request non-personalised ads only: they are based on the page you are reading and your general location, not on a profile of your browsing. Google may still use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention.
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google's consent message asks for your choice before advertising cookies are used. You can manage ad personalisation at Google Ad Settings, opt out of some third-party vendors at aboutads.info, and read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
StudyBrix uses no analytics service.
Server logs
The web server may keep standard access logs (IP address, page, time and browser type) for security and troubleshooting. They are not used for advertising.
