Student data notice for teacher tools

What we keep when a teacher uses classes, assignments and shared collections, what we never collect, and how to delete it. Written in plain language.

Who is responsible

A teacher creates the class and the assignment and decides what to put in them. StudyBrix stores the information only to run these tools for that teacher. We do not sell it, share it, or use it for ads.

What we collect

  • About the teacher: the email address and a one-way hash of the password, from the free StudyBrix account (see accounts).
  • Classes: the class names the teacher types.
  • Students: display names chosen by the teacher, such as a first name or a nickname. If a class has no list, students type a nickname instead.
  • Answers and scores: each student’s answers to an assignment, the marks, the time of submitting and the number of attempts.
  • Worksheets: the questions in each assignment and collection.

What we do not collect

  • No student accounts, emails, passwords or full names. Names that look like an email address, a phone number or a web address are refused.
  • No cookies on assignment pages. To let a student see their own result again, a random code is kept in that browser’s local storage only. It is not shared with anyone and it is not used for tracking.
  • No IP addresses or device details stored with answers. To stop abuse, requests are counted in memory for one minute and then forgotten. Like every page on this site, the web server keeps standard access logs for security, separately from answers (see the about page).
  • No ads, analytics or third-party scripts on assignment pages or shared collection pages.

Who can see it

Only the teacher who made the class sees the class list, answers and scores. A student sees their own answers and score on the device they used. Private links are long random codes that cannot be guessed; we store only a one-way hash of each link. Assignment and collection pages are hidden from search engines and send no referrer to other sites.

How long we keep it

Assignments and their answers are deleted automatically 400 days after the assignment was created. Classes and collections stay until the teacher deletes them or their account.

How to delete it

  • Remove a student from a class to delete that student’s name and all their answers.
  • Delete an assignment to delete all of its answers, or delete a class to delete its list, assignments and answers.
  • Delete your account (account menu in the worksheet builder) to delete everything above straight away.

Parents or students who want something deleted can ask the teacher, or contact us through the about page.

Advice for teachers

Use first names or nicknames, not full names. Do not type personal details into class names, titles or written questions. Share assignment links only with your class.
