Overview

Queen's University was established by a royal charter issued on October 16, 1841, and held its first classes in March 1842. It is a public university on the shore of Lake Ontario in Kingston, a city roughly midway between Toronto and Montreal.

Queen's also runs Bader College, its international campus housed in a 15th-century castle in East Sussex, England. It offers a first-year program and upper-year courses for Queen's credit.

How to apply and the 2027 dates

First-year applications go through OUAC; our OUAC 101 vs 105 guide explains which form you use. The Queen's entry in the OUAC guide lists these dates for fall 2027:

  • December 8, 2026: Major Admission Award application, submitted on SOLUS (the Queen's student system).
  • February 1, 2027: applications for first-year Commerce, Health Sciences and Nursing.
  • February 15, 2027: Supplementary Application for those three programs; late submissions are not accepted.
  • March 1, 2027: applications for all other first-year programs.
  • March 31, 2027: last day for required documents.

After you apply through OUAC, it takes about a week before you can sign in to SOLUS, so leave time before the award deadline.

How Queen's reads an application

Ontario high school applicants need the Ontario Secondary School Diploma and six 4U/M courses including ENG4U, plus each program's prerequisites. For Commerce, Health Sciences and Nursing, the supplementary application adds information beyond your marks. The Major Admission Awards need their own application on SOLUS.

If circumstances beyond your control affected your marks in the last two years, high school applicants can ask for extenuating circumstances to be considered. Some applicants also need an English test score, which Queen's treats as a firm requirement. US and IB students can read our IB and AP guide for the general approach Canadian universities take.

Costs and funding

Tuition differs by program and by domestic or international status, and Bader College has its own fee structure. Queen's publishes current figures by faculty on its official undergraduate tuition and fees page. The Financial Aid and Awards Profile on SOLUS is recommended by February 15, 2027.
