In short

  • TU Delft is a public technical university in Delft, founded in 1842 as a royal academy for engineers.
  • English-taught bachelor programs are Aerospace Engineering (English track), Computer Science and Engineering (English track), Earth, Climate and Technology, and Nanobiology.
  • Applicants without a Dutch diploma must apply for English-taught programs by 15 January.
  • Each English-taught program requires mathematics, and most also require physics or other sciences; gaps must be closed with an approved entrance exam before 1 September.

What TU Delft is like

TU Delft began in 1842 as the Royal Academy in Delft for training engineers, Today almost everything happens on one campus at the south side of the city, a short bike ride from the historic centre and close to train connections to Rotterdam and The Hague. Programs range from aerospace and civil engineering to architecture, industrial design and applied sciences.

Which programs you can take in English

TU Delft lists four bachelor programs that can be taken fully in English: Aerospace Engineering (English track), Computer Science and Engineering (English track), Earth, Climate and Technology, and Nanobiology. Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering are also offered as bilingual Dutch and English tracks. These programs do not require Dutch. All other bachelor programs are taught in Dutch.

Entry requirements

Your diploma must be considered equivalent to the Dutch VWO diploma. If your diploma is not on the TU Delft list, you apply through Studielink and the TU Delft application system for an individual assessment. Required subjects differ by program: Computer Science and Engineering asks for mathematics; Aerospace Engineering for mathematics and physics; Earth, Climate and Technology adds chemistry; and Nanobiology asks for mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. If you are missing a required subject, you must pass the matching VWO-level entrance exam before 1 September. TU Delft accepts exams from Boswell-Bèta, CCVX and the Dutch State exam (in Dutch only).

For a Canadian or US student, this usually means taking the most advanced mathematics and physics your school offers in grades 11 and 12. TU Delft exempts US and Canadian nationals, and applicants with a secondary diploma from either country, from the English test.

How and when to apply

  1. Register your program on Studielink, the national portal.
  2. Complete the TU Delft application and upload documents. Incomplete applications are not considered.
  3. Meet the 15 January deadline if you do not hold a Dutch diploma and are applying to an English-taught program.
  4. Take part in mandatory matching or the selection procedure if your program uses one.

TU Delft publishes the full calendar on its dates and deadlines page for applicants with an international diploma. Confirm it for September 2027 entry.

Fees

EU and EEA students pay the Dutch statutory fee, which is 2,694 euros in 2026-27 and 2,771 euros in 2027-28 for full-time study. Students from outside the EU and EEA usually pay the higher institutional fee set by TU Delft; the amount for your program is on the TU Delft tuition fees page. Budget for rent in Delft too, as student housing is limited.

Getting ready

Delft courses assume fluency in calculus and mechanics. Work through calculus 1 derivatives, physics mechanics and the university mechanics course. Our Netherlands guide covers Studielink and numerus fixus selection.
