Gas volume and temperature
Assume an ideal gas with constant pressure and amount; temperatures must be in kelvins.
The key idea
Assume an ideal gas with constant pressure and amount; temperatures must be in kelvins.
V₁/T₁ = V₂/T₂
Worked examples
An ideal gas occupies 14 L at 340 K. With pressure and amount fixed, find its volume at 680 K in L.
14 × 680 / 340 = 28
28 L
An ideal gas occupies 24 L at 240 K. With pressure and amount fixed, find its volume at 720 K in L.
24 × 720 / 240 = 72
72 L
Try it yourself
An ideal gas occupies 11 L at 280 K. With pressure and amount fixed, find its volume at 840 K in L.
An ideal gas occupies 20 L at 200 K. With pressure and amount fixed, find its volume at 400 K in L.
