Remember this

Compare unit prices

Compare prices for equal amounts and in the same currency.

unit price = total cost ÷ quantity

154 ÷ 11 = 14

Percentage discounts

Find the discount, then subtract it from the original price. Ignore taxes unless given.

sale price = original × (1 − rate/100)

460 × (1 − 50/100) = 230

A simple budget balance

A negative balance means expenses exceed income in this exercise.

balance = income − expenses

300 − 130 − 150 = 20

Scale a recipe

Scale each ingredient by the same factor.

new amount = old amount × new portions / old portions

150/2 × 20 = 1500
