Cellular respiration and breathing · Revision sheet
Distinguish chemical energy release from gas movement.
Learn the idea
Respiration
Cellular respiration transfers energy from fuel molecules to usable cellular forms such as ATP.
Breathing
Breathing moves air; it supports gas exchange but is not identical to respiration.
Aerobic
Aerobic respiration uses oxygen as the final electron acceptor in the standard model.
Organisms
Plants, animals and many microorganisms respire; pathways differ across conditions and organisms.
Explain without looking
- Why is a single fixed ATP yield not always appropriate for every organism and condition?
- Which activity happens at the cellular scale?
