What was checked
- Every answer is present and well formed: numeric answers parse, choice answers are one of the choices, written questions include a sample answer.
- Every question is marked correct by the site’s own grader when given its answer, and no wrong choice is marked correct.
- Every question’s grade range includes the collection’s grade.
- Every question belongs to its unit’s topic and domain.
- No question appears twice in a collection.
- Every worksheet has 10 to 15 questions, and every worksheet and answer key renders.
These checks run automatically on every question before the owner approves a collection. If any question changes, the collection is hidden until it passes the checks and is approved again.

Alphabet
Letter names and the order of the alphabet.
Short lesson: The alphabet
The alphabet has 26 letters in a fixed order, from A to Z.
- Say it in order. Sing or say the letters from A to Z. The order never changes.
- Two forms. Each letter has an uppercase form (B) and a lowercase form (b).
- Before and after. To find the letter after another, say the alphabet up to it and say one more letter.
- Alphabetical order. Sort words by their first letter. If the first letters match, look at the second letter.

Phonics & sounds
Letter sounds at the start, middle and end of words, rhymes and simple word families.

Words are made of sounds. Say a word slowly and listen for its first, middle and last sounds.
- First sound. Stretch the word out: mmm-oon. The first sound you hear is /m/, written m.
- Middle sound. In short words like pig and hen, the middle sound is a vowel: a, e, i, o or u.
- Last sound. Say the word and stop on the end: he-n. The last sound is /n/.
- Rhymes. Rhyming words end with the same sounds, like cat, hat and mat.
