Tone, counterarguments and careful conclusions · Revision sheet
Evaluate how language influences an argument without treating tone as proof.
Learn the idea
Tone
Word choice can suggest an attitude, but tone alone cannot verify a claim.
Counterargument
Represent a relevant opposing argument accurately before responding to it.
Qualification
Words such as some, often or under these conditions can make scope more accurate.
Conclusion
A conclusion should follow the evidence and acknowledge significant limitations.
Explain without looking
- Which question concerns the argument's reasoning rather than its tone?
- Explain the difference between disagreeing with a claim and insulting its author.
