Projectile components and model limits · Revision sheet
Treat horizontal and vertical motion together without inventing horizontal gravity.
Learn the idea
Components
Split velocity into horizontal and vertical components in a chosen coordinate system.
Ideal horizontal motion
With no air resistance, horizontal acceleration is zero while vertical acceleration is downward g.
Shared time
Both components describe the same flight time. Do not calculate unrelated times and combine them.
Highest point
Vertical velocity is zero at a highest point, but acceleration remains downward. Horizontal velocity may be nonzero.
Explain without looking
- Name one limitation of an ideal projectile calculation for a real feather.
- A projectile's horizontal speed is 8 m/s and flight time is 2.5 s. Find horizontal range.
